The Email Love plugin comes with hundreds of pre-built templates and components, but you can also save your own customized versions directly inside the plugin. This means your team can build a library of on-brand components that are always just a click away when building emails.
This guide covers:
- How to customize an existing component in Figma
- How to save it inside the plugin
- How to use your saved components when building emails
- How to remove components you no longer need
Step 1: Duplicate the Ultimate Email Design System
Before making any changes, duplicate the Ultimate Email Design System file in Figma. This keeps the original file intact so you always have a clean reference to come back to.
Step 2: Customize Your Component
Open the duplicated file and find the component you want to customize. You can make any changes you need, such as:
- Updating colors to match your brand
- Adjusting spacing and padding
- Changing font styles or sizes
- Modifying layout or content structure
Make your edits directly in Figma β the plugin will pick up whatever you've designed.
Step 3: Rename Your Component
Before saving, rename the component to something that makes sense for your team. A clear, descriptive name makes it much easier to find later when you're building an email.
For example, instead of "Hero Section Variant 3," you might rename it to "Hero β Monthly Newsletter" or "Hero β Product Launch."
Step 4: Save It Inside the Plugin
- Open the Email Love plugin and navigate to the relevant section (e.g., Hero, Content, Footer)
- At the very top of the section, you'll see a button called Add Custom Component
- Select your customized component on the Figma canvas
- Click Add Custom Component
The plugin will save your component, and it will now appear alongside the built-in components in that section.
Using Your Custom Components
When you're building an email, your saved custom components will be available right inside the plugin. Just create your email frame, open the plugin, and you'll find your customized components ready to use alongside the default library.
Removing Custom Components
If you no longer need a custom component, you can delete it from the plugin. Your saved components will have a delete option β simply remove any components you no longer want cluttering up your library.
Tips
- Start with duplicating the design system β never edit the original file directly
- Use clear naming conventions β your future self (and your team) will thank you
- Save components by section β add hero components to the Hero section, footer components to the Footer section, and so on
- Build a shared library β if your team uses the same brand components, saving them in the plugin keeps everyone consistent
